Discover a cherished gem nestled in the heart of Los Angeles—The Apple Pan, an American restaurant that has been delighting taste buds since 1927. This iconic eatery is not just a place to grab a meal; it’s a nostalgic experience that pays homage to the classic American diner vibe with its counter seating and retro decor. The moment you step inside, you're enveloped in an atmosphere that celebrates the history of good food and friendly service.

Specializing in classic American sandwiches, The Apple Pan is particularly famous for its signature Steakburger—a robust delight served with their unique sauce, mayonnaise, crisp pickles, and fresh lettuce, all for just $9.25. Diners rave about this unforgettable burger, with one mentioning that the hickory flavor in their Hickoryburger evokes the spirit of the old West, making each bite a savory exploration of flavors. The Hickoryburger is also priced at a friendly $9.25, perfect for a casual meal that doesn’t skimp on taste.

If you’re in the mood for something heartier, you might tempt your palate with the Southern Baked Ham sandwich, which goes for $11.50 and comes paired beautifully with mayonnaise and lettuce on your choice of bread. And don't forget to indulge in dessert! The Apple Pan is equally celebrated for its mouthwatering pies, with their banana cream pie consistently highlighted as a must-try. But whether it’s cherry or apple pie, the sweet offerings here seem to promise a slice of happiness with every bite.

Real customer reviews showcase a shared love for The Apple Pan and its straightforward approach to great food. John Grove captures the sentiment perfectly, describing the restaurant as “probably the best burger I've had in a long time.” He also adds that while parking can be tricky, the experience is well worth maneuvering through the streets of LA. Another loyal patron, David McGovern, echoes this enthusiasm, celebrating the timeless charm and outstanding service while eagerly recommending the hickoryburger paired with a piece of pie. As he puts it, “This joint is a LA institution that has been at it for close to 80 years… and hopefully at least 80 more.”

Yet, it's important to know that The Apple Pan exudes a casual ambiance—perfect for those who appreciate a laid-back dining experience. Whether you're a local or just visiting, you’ll feel right at home among the vintage decor and friendly staff, creating that authentic neighborhood diner vibe. So if you find yourself in Los Angeles, make sure to carve out some time to visit The Apple Pan, where the heart of American cuisine beats strong and the memories are as delightful as the delicious food being served.

Probably the best burger I've had in a long time. The relish was awesome in the steak burger though it didn't taste like steak, seemed like regular burger. However the hickory sauce in the hickory burger literally gives vibes of old west cowboy smoke. Simply outstanding. The parking is horrible, but still worth visiting if you want an awesome burger.

Second visit to this location. Burgers are classic. Good taste and nothing fancy. Just a good place for a good burger. Parking is non existence. Staff is friendly

The one. The only. The Apple Pan. Where the only thing better than the burgers is the nostalgia. And the pie. The pie is undefeated. Service is outstanding, so sit inside at the counter; it’s worth the wait. This joint is a LA institution that has been at it for close to 80 years… and hopefully at least 80 more. The hickoryburger & banana cream pie are unforgettable. Prices are good. Food is excellent. Apple Pan hits the spot!

The place was very casual and what you expect from a pie restaurant. The hickory burger was pretty solid, but had too much lettuce (easy to take out) and the fries were pretty mid. The food food would be a 3 stars for me, but the pies were easily a 5. For what it's worth, the cherry and apple pie slices were tasty and great quality. The size is pretty good too so it's not like the skimp out on portions. I'm not usually in this area and so I'm glad I checked it out, but definitely visit if you want good slice of pie.

Great burger, more umami flavor compared to the normal pink sauce style burger. Good fries and I had the strawberry pie which was just alright. Dad I missed the apple pie No parking but not hard to find something. service was quick and attentive. style was old school including a guy reading the newspaper, as to the ambiance.

Not only the best burger in L.A. - but maybe the best in the USA! And great throwback vibe! I went back to the Pan for the first time in years - and the hickory burger was awesome as usual! I used to go here in the 1980s on a regular basis, always for the hickory burger (best in LA), fries, a doctor pepper, and a slice of pie - and I have never been disappointed. One of the things I like best about the burger is grilled bun, crunchy fresh lettuce wedge, and the melting Tillamook cheddar. The apple pie a la mode can’t be beat, and the banana cream pie is still amazing! There are other burgers and sandwiches on the menu which I have heard are delicious - but I always get the hickory burger! Almost nothing has changed - even the same waiter - who still pours the ketchup for you! Two updates since the 80s - it used to be cash only, now cash is no longer accepted - only credit cards or e-pay, and it used to be closed on Mondays. Also, the paper cone drinking cups have been replaced with glasses. They’ve added outdoor seating in the back. The inside vibe is still like stepping into the 1950s and a nice blast from the past. Seating is limited, but if you arrive early enough before the lunch rush you won’t have to wait. You can find parking on the street - just be careful not to park in a no parking zone. Pro-tip: ask for your fries to be cooked crispy.

First things first, the service is 11/10. Best service I’ve had in years, so hats off to that! The staff was very attentive, always filling up water, taking care of trash, and extremely friendly. They even drew a ketchup smiley face :) Food wise, I got the regular burger with fries and the banana cream pie. The burger was solid but a little heavy on the relish for my taste. Nothing out of this world but will satisfy your burger craving. I tried the banana cream pie because I was recommended it, and even though I don’t LOVE banana, it was yummy! My favorite item was the fries—hot and crispy! I’d love to come back and try the other pies.

If you're looking to find the top 5 burgers in LA, Apple Pan is going to be on your list. It has influenced many other burger chains such as Johnny Rockets. If you're into local film trivia, it was also the original location of The Peach Pit from Beverly Hills 90210. Come for the delicious burgers and stay for the equally legendary pie.
